Looking to spruce up your life with some lovely greens? If you bear with me, I promise to find you the perfect leafy companion to fill the plant-shaped hole you have in your life.

Trust me on this; I won’t disappoint you.

In the next paragraphs, you’ll find suggestions for every vibe — for the girly girls, the ambition-driven, the yoga lovers, and more!

For My Pink Girlies

The year is 2023. The Barbie movie just premiered. You gather all your friends to go to the movies, all dressed in bright pink… and ever since then, your aesthetic has become — looking through life in rose-tinted glasses (literally!).

To fit that pretty-in-pink vibe, I would recommend none other than the lush Calathea Triostar (Stromanthe sanguinea ‘Triostar’).

This plant is a color palette on its own — a perfect marriage of green and pink that will steal your heart and never return it. And the hot pink side of its leaves? Ugh, girl… it will leave you weak in the knees!

As a Barbie girl, in a Barbie sort of world, this beautiful Calathea is truly a must-have.

Provide them with a spot with indirect light and keep the humidity high (soil consistently moist, never soggy!) and I will assure you this roommate of yours will be more than happy to live with you!

For a Rich Man Plant World

You are ambitious. You are a go-getter. An entrepreneur to your very core. You don’t dream in pink; you dream in green, as in the color of, obviously, money.

The good news is that there is a perfect match for you — the commonly known Chinese Money Plant (Pilea peperomioides)!

Its unique round leaves resemble the shape of coins, symbolizing the abundance you wish to attract. Even its name, Pilea — leave the ‘a’ off, and you’ll have a pile. A pile of money!

As this money plant is said to bring luck and prosperity, make sure that they sit in a place with bright indirect light, and allow their soil to dry between waterings to prevent root rot (and ruining your lucky streaks!).

For the Yogis Out There

In contrast to the fortune seekers I just described, you are less of a material girl in a material world and more of a spiritual person who appreciates the beauty of the world and all its living things.

If I started to paint a picture here, I would dare to guess that you are all about being in touch with your inner self, mindfulness, and possibly yoga.

If you’ve been bending yourself over backward to land the most advanced yoga poses, then I have the perfect candidate for you — the exotic and exquisite Bird of Paradise (Strelitzia reginae).

This plant will not only adorn your living space beautifully, but it will also honor the time you’ve spent on the mat since Bird of Paradise also lends its name to a yoga pose. Their flowers resemble exotic birds in flight, symbolizing freedom and beauty.

So to keep this little birdie living happily under your wing, provide them with loads of direct light and water them when the top inch of their soil feels dry.

For the Minimalism Enthusiast

Every minimalist seeks to focus on what matters most and to eliminate non-essential clutter from their lives.

Plants create a more harmonious environment to live in while purifying the air. And that seems pretty essential to me.

So why not invite a minimal plant into your perfectly curated minimal living space? May I interest you in the unique Tillandsias? Otherwise known as Air Plants?

These plants thrive in beautifully crafted terrariums that will fit perfectly into your ‘less is more’ type of décor!

They absorb moisture and nutrients from the air, which makes them truly fascinating and very low maintenance.

Be sure to keep them in a place that provides bright indirect light and keep them hydrated by soaking them in water for 20–30 minutes once a week.

For the Pattern Lover

You are the polar opposite of the minimalist. They seek clean looks and softer palettes, whereas you are all about bold patterns and bright colors.

Your quirky, extraordinary self thrives in a world full of stripes, florals, polka dots, and tie-dyes.

In all due respect to your lovely uniqueness, I couldn’t just suggest something solid green from top to bottom. The mere thought of this might have you rolling your eyes at me.

But what if I told you that we have a Zebra Plant (Haworthiopsis fasciata)? This plant features striking white stripes over its deep dark green, resembling a zebra print, and making it the perfect choice for you.

This perky Zebra would rather have a corner for themselves with bright light. Water them sparingly, allowing the soil to dry completely between waterings.

For the Sci-Fi Aficionado

Your essence embodies someone who loves futuristic themes, fantasy worlds, and alternative realities.

To add a touch of intrigue to your persona, you need a plant with an otherworldly vibe. None other than the Venus Fly Trap (Dionaea muscipula) fits this description.

The classic carnivorous plant, deemed to conquer mankind! I am kidding — it simply preys on small insects drawn to its clawed head.

Actually, their trap mechanism is one of nature’s fastest movements, snapping shut in less than a second when their sensors are triggered! I think you can’t get anything more sci-fi than this!

To ensure mosquitoes and flies are kept away, offer the Fly Trap bright, direct sunlight and avoid tap water — use distilled water when watering them, as the minerals in tap water may harm the plant.

For the Frozen Princess

Like the sci-fi fans, you also enjoy the enchantment of fantasy worlds. But rather than aliens, killer plants, and shark tornadoes, you prefer frozen kingdoms with Nordic inspiration.

Yes, my dear Elsa, I am talking to you! If the idea of finding the perfect plant to fit into your Frozen fantasy is too good to let go, you’ll love this suggestion.

As the ice queen fan that you are, you obviously know the magical Trolls (or Rock Trolls) that inhabit the Valley of the Living Rock, who use magic to heal or alter memories.

I might say these little trolls are like… Living Rocks? And yes, my dear friend, you can get yourself a whimsical living rock in the form of a Lithops.

Lithops look the way they do, because they blend with their surroundings to avoid being eaten by herbivores. Which is quite a clever mechanism!

Make these little trolls happy by keeping them in the sun — they enjoy lots of light — and water them very minimally, allowing the soil to dry completely before watering it again.

For the Old Soul

As an old soul, you live in the present, longing to have been born in another time. You are nostalgic, timeless, and value memories and emotional connections to objects.

You enjoy handmade and well-crafted items from the past, and since time travel is not yet possible, your environment has been carefully curated to transport you to your preferred era.

The Boston Fern (Nephrolepis exaltata) is a lush, vintage plant that evokes old-fashioned homes and perfectly complements your nostalgic aura. So much so that they have been popular since the Victorian era! On top of that, they are said to be excellent air purifiers.

To keep this Fern timelessly beautiful, offer them an indirect light setting and high humidity — keep the soil moist but avoid waterlogging at all costs.

There are plants for every single one of us!

No matter which persona resonates with you, the world of plants offers something for everyone.

From the vibrant Pink Girlies to the introspective Old Souls, each plant serves as a reflection of your personality and preferences.

By choosing the right greenery, you not only enhance your living space but also cultivate an environment that echoes your vibes and aspirations.

Let your home bloom with character, and may your collection flourish as vibrantly as your personality!

Happy planting!
